Drivers face $76 fine under new ‘automatic ticket’
Drivers face $76 fine under new ‘automatic ticket’ law coming on May 7
An automatic ticketing law is set to come into effect on May 7, targeting drivers who park in bus lanes or other no-stop zones with the aid of smart cameras powered by artificial intelligence.
The innovative system, which will be implemented in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, involves AI cameras mounted on buses and trolleys. These cameras capture an image and a ticket is issued without the need for an on-site officer.
As reported by NBC, the photo of the alleged illegally parked driver is sent to an officer who determines if a ticket is warranted. However, out of context, it may seem as though the ticket was solely generated by AI and issued automatically without human intervention.
